LocalBrain

What it does

LocalBrain opens a folder on your computer through the browser's File System Access API, no server and no account required, and treats it as a living vault. You browse, edit, and connect notes the way you would in any note app, but a background process keeps frontmatter, tags, and backlinks current on its own, and surfaces which notes have gone stale so the vault doesn't quietly rot.

The one promise

Everything about LocalBrain is judged against a single line: the brain maintains itself. Turn on Autopilot, add your own OpenAI or Anthropic key, and it sweeps the vault every few minutes, generating frontmatter and freshness scores and linking related notes, whether they were edited by hand, in Obsidian, or by an AI coding agent. No key means the AI layer degrades gracefully; browsing and editing still work.

Built for people who already work with AI coding agents and want those agents sharing one accurate memory, and who are tired of manually tending a personal knowledge base. Markdown stays portable and Obsidian-compatible, so nothing is locked in.
